Another gem that we discovered last month was Harveys @ Winchester Mansions in Sea Point. Having heard about their August bubbly special, we couldn’t resist checking it out, and while there was one or two little ‘oopsies’ with the special, we did enjoy half price bubbly (which is a huge plus in my book!).
the vibe
Being a huge fan of damask print and the rather ornate, decadent style of decor that includes plenty of greys, silvers, golds and shiny accents, I couldn’t help but be bowled over by Harveys’ decor… lush velvet couches, covered stools, shiny floors (with a glass section overlooking a room below), beautiful chandeliers and soft lighting result in one pretty spectacular bar. Plus, the bathrooms are to die for – pink velvet wallpaper, touch-taps and yummy soaps and lotions abound.
the decor
We had bubbly, as well as some bar tapas – I had the most divine French pizza thing with spinach, feta and sundried tomatoes, and the others had nachos and the chicken version of the pizza. The service was so so – our waitress neglected to tell us that their free bubbly and something sweet special was not running anymore, but we did have 3 of the glasses of bubbly taken off when we pointed out that the special was advertised right in front of us on the table.

Nevertheless, I will still be going back – for the decor, yes – but also for the vibe, for the fact that it’s near the sea (being right on Beach Road), they have good bubbly and I just liked the place.
