With my 30th bash just around the corner, I have been seeking the perfect dress for the occasion. This is harder than it may seem however, with so many divine options to choose from, and so many gorgeous colours! I find it very hard to stick to basics, and I still have not yet managed to find the perfect black dress – mostly because every time I go out looking for one, I am lured to the bright side by a floral, patterned, loud pink/yellow/green or even white dress instead.
The key trends I’ve been spotting lately for dresses include the following:
1. The Origami Dress
I love the shape of these dresses, and the detail around the hip is awesome too. The colour is DIVINE, but I’ve seen origami satin dresses in black at Divine that are also fab – the neckline on those ones is a bit demure though. I don’t know, maybe it will look better on?

2. The One Shoulder Dress
These are always flattering, and while finding the right bra is a bit of a pain, the overall effect is so worth it. I also like the pleated skirt, and of course it’s gorgeous bright and purple… can’t go wrong with that.

3. The Little Black Dress
I really do need a classic black dress – even just one will do! I love the neckline on this one, and the classic pencil skirt has a cool retro vibe. The origami style works well too, as does the satin fabric. Maybe that LBD at Divine is worth trying on after all, hmm.

4. The Turquoise Dress
I would prefer a paler aqua shade, but turquoise is always awesome. I like the neck detail on this one, and the flowing skirt. With the right shoes, turquoise works very well.

5. The Pink Dress
And here we have the origami vibe again, with a folded skirt and cool detail around the top. The belt is rather slick, but could work better in gold perhaps. I heart the color – bold pink like that works with any skin tone, and is one of the most flattering shades ever. With black or nude peep toe heels, or classic closed toe heels in black, gold, nude or even brown, this one would be purrrfect!

And talking of heels…

Are these heels not the most gorgeous things ever?! I am seriously lusting over nude heels right now – they go with anything and everything, and just so slick. Available at Aldo, Edgars, and a few other stockists (or Louboutin if your budget extends that far).
i am looking for a dress similar to the origami dress that you have shown, can you suggest anywhere in Cape Town that sells them? Anna
Hi Anna,
I did this post about a year ago, so not sure where you’ll be able to find origami dresses. When I was looking, YDE had quite a few options though so I would start with them! Other places that you could try include A Store on Long Street, or Wardrobe and The Lot on Kloof Street.
Hope you manage to find something!
